Frolov R

We mainly study information processing at the visual system peripheries, specific mechanisms of visual signal transfer and transformation, their physiological adaptations and evolution linked to visual ecology. Since at the levels of receptors, neurons and neuron networks no principal differences exist between dissimilar Metazoan species, we use insects as convenient model organisms to investigate common mechanisms of signal processing. Our research methods include electrophysiology, microscopy, gene expression silencing, behavioral experiments and mathematical modeling.
