Area of scientific interests: the mechanisms of the development and management of chronic neuropathic pain and itch, the analgesic effect of psychotropic drugs, modeling the interaction of drugs and xenobiotics with their molecular targets using the computer simulation methods.
Key scientific results over the past 5 years: with the help of molecular docking and molecular dynamics methods, the interaction of the psychotropic drugs having analgesic and antipruritic activity with the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) and sodium-calcium exchanger (NCX) has been studied. The amino acids involved in the binding of the drugs have been found, the structural characteristics of the ligands that are responsible for the effectiveness of their interaction with NMDAR and NCX have been determined. The efficacy of the binding of the drugs to NMDAR and NCX has been shown to correlate with the strength of their analgesic/antipruritic activity and the severity of the side effects.
