Studies on changes of gangliosides and the composition of their fatty acids in rat brain during adaptation to cold laid the foundation for the investigation of the mechanism of the their neuroprotective action in the models of excitotoxicity and oxidative stress. Later the range of neuroprotectors to be probed was supplemented with alpha-tocopherol and insulin. I pay attention to the exproration of their ability to modulate the activity of the most important signaling pathways (Akt, Erk ½, GSK-3beta, AMPK) upon individual application and in various combinations with each other. In addition to signaling pathways, I am interested in mitochondrial transformation processes. The major methods in my hand are Western blotting, immunoprecipitation and PCR . Cell cultures and Wistar rats are the most frequently used objects in my experiments.
