A part of work includes investigation of molecular mechanisms underlying negative influence of fluoride ions on hippocampal cells and an impairment of cognitive capacities of rats. The study analyses morphology of hippocampal neurons, changes in expression of intracellular messengers of receptor and mitochondrial pathways of cell death, activity of cellular components providing synaptic plasticity, and disturbances in transduction of synaptic signal including alterations in activity of transcriptional and neurotropic factors. Second part of work focuses on studying the mechanisms of cell viability in lampreys on the course of prespawning period, which is accompanied by natural starvation and metabolic depression. The functioning of intracellular enzymes (protein kinases and protein phosphatases) and changes in activity of components of death signaling systems are evaluated in erythrocytes of these animals.
