One of the fundamental problems of contemporary neurobiology and medicine is finding out the ways of preventing the metabolic disarrangements, free radical reaction activation in the nerve cells and of their death, leading to neurodegenerative, ischemic and diabetic brain damage, development of new drugs for treatment and prevention of these types of brain damage. The investigations, performed by Prof. N.F.Avrova, are devoted to the studies of effectiveness of natural neuroprotectors possessing antioxidative properties (including insulin, gangliosides, vitamin E components) at their separate and common use to prevent brain neuropathies, as well as to the comparative analysis of molecular mechanisms of their neuroprotection. In this work the modern methods of analysis are used (immunoblotting, methods of real time polymerase chain reaction, cell cultures, flow cytometry, methods of cognitive function assessment and others).
