Sechenov Institute of Evolutionary Physiology and Biochemistry Russian Academy of Sciences (IEPHB RAS)
The Sechenov Institute of Evolutionary Physiology and Biochemistry was founded on January 6, 1956 by the Resolution of Presidium of Academy of Sciences of the USSR No. 2, item 3 of 06.01.1956.
The founder of IEPHB RAS is the Russian Federation. The managing function on the Institute belongs to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.
According to the evaluation of the results of Russian scientific organizations in 2018, IEPHB RAS was classified as scientific organization of the highest — first category.
The Institute carryes out research under the State Research Programs with the following areas:
In the previous three years (2015-2017) the scientists from IEPHB RAS published about three hundred articles cited in the international database WEB of Knowledge (WoS). The Institute regularly holds conferences and schools:
— Conference on Evolutionary Physiology and Biochemistry Dedicated to the Memory of Academician L.A. Orbeli and the School on Evolutionary Physiology,
— the Conference «Medical and Physiological Problems of Human Ecology,»
— the Conference on «Neuroendocrinology»,
— «Optogenetics» and others.
IEPHB RAS (according to its license for educational activity) provides postgraduate training in Biological sciences (scientific code 06.06.01) and Fundamental medicine (30.06.01). On the basis of the Institute students of leading specialized universities of St. Petersburg perform bachelor ‘s and master ‘s theses.
A competition of students’ projects named after L.A. Orbeli is held annually, the winners are awarded with a scholarship.
The Institute has a Dissertation Council (D 002.127.01) for the degree of candidate or doctor of sciences in three specialties: “physiology in biological sciences”, “physiology in medical sciences” and “biochemistry”.
